Short guided walk
A brief guided walk while holding the phone; it records neutral motion measurements like an estimated step count and rhythm — to keep and share, never a score or a result.
Experimental check-in task — not a cleared or approved medical device. This task records neutral measurements for you to keep and share. It does not score you, does not say what any number means, and does not diagnose. Only a clinician can interpret it.
What this task looks at
This task looks at walking motion — the movement recorded by the phone's sensors while you take a short, guided walk holding the phone.
What you'll do
A short walk of roughly 30 seconds or about 20 steps, phone in hand. Before you start, Lantern reminds you to find a safe space, suggests having someone with you if helpful, and says to skip it if you've had recent falls or feel unsteady. A Stop button is always available.
What it records
Neutral motion measurements from the phone's accelerometer and gyroscope:
- Estimated step count / cadence — an estimate of steps and step rate.
- Rhythm regularity — a figure describing how even the walking rhythm was.
Each is shown with its units and the method version used, plus a short note on what the task looked at. These describe recorded motion only.
What it does not do
It does not tell you whether your walking is normal, impaired, or a sign of anything. It records motion numbers; your clinician interprets them.
Not the same as
This is an original, own-authored task. It is not and is not equivalent to clinical or instrumented gait analysis or the 6-Minute Walk Distance. This task does not reproduce them.
Experimental. Not a cleared or approved medical device. Records neutral measurements only — no diagnosis, no interpretation. Skip if you are unsteady or have had recent falls.

Each task records one kind of neutral measurement — for reflection and conversation with a clinician, never a diagnosis.
